Texas hail event tracker.
Hail is the leading cause of roof claims in Central Texas. We document the diameter, track, and roof-by-roof concerns after every event we respond to across the region.
How Texas insurance carriers evaluate hail damage
Most Texas carriers require hail to be at least 1 inch in diameter to be considered functional damage to asphalt shingles. Smaller hail can still cause granule loss and bruising, but documentation is critical — the date of loss, hail size reported by NWS, and photo evidence collected within the claim window all influence the outcome. Every report below includes peak reported hail diameter to help you match storms to your roof's condition.

A fast-moving supercell tracked from Helotes through Stone Oak and Bulverde, dropping hail up to 2.25 inches (tennis-ball sized) along a 14-mile corridor. NWS confirmed multiple hail reports across Bexar and Comal counties.
New Braunfels & Canyon Lake Hail — October 5, 2025
Golf-ball-sized hail (1.75 in) impacted communities along the I-35 corridor between New Braunfels and San Marcos, with reports continuing west toward Canyon Lake. The storm tracked southeast over approximately 90 minutes.
